James Taylor: Fillmore East 1971 (early show) Soundboard
Live at Fillmore East, New York, January 25, 1971 (early show)
James Taylor, possibly at the height of his popularity, played two
shows at the Fillmore East in New York City on January 25, 1971.
While fans have traded and circulated recordings of the second or late
show (click here), the first or early show proved more elusive.
Recently, a soundboard recording of the early show appeared on the
internet and the crisp sound of the acoustic set shows how much Taylor
is a toast of the crowd. Apart from classics such as Sweet Baby James
and Fire And Rain, Taylor covered Merle Haggard's Okie From Muskagee,
Carole King's Up On The Roof, Danny Kortchmar's Machine Gun Kelly and
even his own brother Livingston's In My Reply.
As the notes to the show states: "Incomplete show, but this is all
that's in circulation so far as I know." What's missing are the songs
performed with the band.
Track 01 Country Road (slight tape warble around 2:12 - 2:15)
Track 02 Knockin' Round the Zoo
Track 03 Okie From Muskagee (Merle Haggard)
Track 04 Blossom
Track 05 In My Reply (Livingston Taylor)
Track 06 Sweet Baby James
Track 07 Up On The Roof (Carole King)
Track 08 Carolina In My Mind
Track 09 Riding on a Railroad
Track 10 Fire and Rain
